Story Assessment
Overview:
What is a story assessment?
At Write Plan, a story assessment is a 2-page letter that identifies the overall strengths and weaknesses of your manuscript. It focuses on a manuscript's non-grammar elements such as structure, plot, characterization, world-building, and pacing to help you enhance your story. A story assessment is not as detailed as our developmental editing service but is ideal if you're looking for general feedback on what works and what doesn't in your manuscript.
Why do I need a story assessment?
As writers, we've spent countless hours plotting and drafting our books. This makes us blind to our manuscripts' weak points, resulting in missed opportunities to strengthen our stories. Before you go through with a full developmental edit, an assessment will help you identify the weakest areas of your story. This will save you money by allowing you to fix the manuscript's more obvious weaknesses before handing it off to a developmental editor.
A story assessment can also come in handy after you've hired a developmental editor. During the developmental editing stage, a lot will change in your manuscript. After the heavy revisions of developmental editing, it may be worth having a story assessment to ensure your revisions are as strong as they can be.
What should I expect from Write Plan?
Our goal is to help you grow as a writer by giving you feedback to enhance your book. Our story assessment services are a few steps down from a full developmental edit. Instead of the 6+ pages of feedback you'd get in a developmental editing round, you'll receive 2 pages of feedback covering the main strengths and weaknesses of your book. We will work closely with you throughout the process, including post-revisions, so you can get the most out of your editing experience.
