Overview:

What is developmental editing?

Also known as content editing, developmental editing focuses on a manuscript's non-grammar elements such as theme, structure, plot, character development, world-building, pacing, voice, tension, dialogue, descriptions, and more to enhance your story. At Write Plan, we will provide you with an 8+ page editorial letter focusing on these elements. We will also write a chapter-by-chapter analysis to identify which sections work better than others. In addition to the editorial letter and chapter analysis, you will receive detailed comments in the margins of your manuscript focusing on fine-tuning areas that can be improved. It is more thorough than a story assessment. To see how these services compare, view the chart here.

Why do I need a developmental editor?

As writers, we all become attached to our work after countless hours plotting and drafting our books. Without a fresh perspective, this makes us unaware of our manuscripts' weak points, resulting in missed opportunities to strengthen our stories. To better engage your readers and keep them turning pages, have a developmental editor help you bring out your manuscript's full potential.

What should I expect from Write Plan?

Our goal is to help you grow as a writer by giving you detailed feedback of your manuscript to build your writing skills and strengthen any weak points in your story. We work closely with you throughout the process, including post-revisions, to maximize your editing experience.

Payments:

Payment Plans

Unlike many editing companies, we prefer creating custom payment plans for authors to make our services more accessible. Our payment plans are flexible to fit your needs. If you are interested in a payment plan, please let us know that when you fill out a contact form. We do require that 40% of the project's total amount is paid before we begin edits.

Please note that for projects with payment plans, turnaround is 23 months.

If you wish to pay the full amount upfront to secure a 4-week turnaround instead, you are welcome to do so.

Reserve an Editing Date in Advance

To reserve an editing date ahead of time, we require a $100 non-refundable deposit to secure a spot in our schedule. The $100 will be deducted from the project's final total.

How to Pay

Write Plan will send an electronic invoice, which can be paid via credit card or secure bank payment.
