What is developmental editing?
Also known as content editing, developmental editing is one of the first stages of the editing process. It focuses on a manuscript's non-grammar elements such as structure, plot, characterization, world-building, pacing, and descriptions to enhance your story.
Why do I need a developmental editor?
As writers, we all become attached to our work after countless hours plotting and drafting our books. This makes us blind to our manuscripts' weak points, resulting in missed opportunities to strengthen our stories. To better engage your readers and keep them turning pages, have a developmental editor help you bring out your manuscript's full potential.
What should I expect from Write Plan?
Our goal is to help you grow as a writer by giving you detailed feedback of your manuscript to build your writing skills and strengthen any weak points in your story. We work closely with you throughout the process, including post-revisions, to maximize your editing and publishing experience.
Free Sample Edit
We offer 5-pg sample edits for free. Pages should be formatted as Times New Roman font, 12-pt, and double-spaced with 1" margins. In addition to the free sample, a quote will be provided for your overall project.
This round consists of a 6+ page editorial letter focusing on the strengths and weaknesses of the structure, plot, characterization, world-building, pacing, and other big-picture elements. The editorial letter will act as your guide for revisions. Turnaround is 4 weeks unless stated otherwise. (See the price chart here.)
This round comprises in-depth comments in the margins of the manuscript, focusing on the nitty-gritty details to fine-tune previous revisions and ensure the manuscript is as strong as it can be. This round takes place after you have completed revisions for Round 1. Turnaround is 4 weeks unless stated otherwise. (See the price chart here.)
The package deal allows you to get both Round 1 and Round 2 at a discounted rate if purchased together before the start of Round 1. (See the price chart here.)
Unlike many editing companies, we prefer creating custom payment plans for clients to make our services more accessible. Our payment plans are flexible to fit your needs. If you are interested in a payment plan, please fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page to get in touch. We do require that 40% of the project's total amount is paid before we begin edits. This can be done either through a lump sum down payment or by starting the payment plan in advance.
If you wish to pay the full amount upfront, you are welcome to do so. However, this option is not available for the Package Deal, as the total word count may change between Round 1 and Round 2, affecting the price. We will adjust the payment plan accordingly for the Package Deal to ensure you aren't overcharged.
How to Pay
Write Plan will send an electronic invoice, which can be paid via credit card or secure bank payment.
